fitting in

fitting in is a diary-like practice maintained since 2017, accumulating over 320 images. Imitation, opposition, continuation, and merging are key strategies for positioning the body in urban settings, public or private. Each intervention is documented with a self-timer, using a minimal approach to disrupt the everyday. Blending performance, installation, and image-making, the practice questions how shared spaces are constructed and inhabited.

A selection of seven works from the series fitting in (2017–present), pigment prints, purchased by Te Papa Tongarewa, Museum of New Zealand, Wellington, 2025. Works included: #283 First Church, Tay Street, Invercargill (2024); #259 Tay Street, Invercargill (2024); #189 Otakaro Park, Invercargill (2022); #250 Tay Street playground, Invercargill (2023); #222 Chelmsford Street playground, Invercargill (2022); #158 SIT Arcade, Invercargill (2021); #248 Behind Wachner Place, Invercargill (2023).
