playground rebel

Playgrounds are a paradox. Designed to promote engagement, play, creativity, and movement, they simultaneously limit, suggesting specific uses for particular age groups. The recorded interventions in playground rebel are all set within public playgrounds in Waihōpai Invercargill, using the body to challenge these constraints of conformity.

Playground rebel is a subtle and physical rebellion against prescribed movement in public space.

Currently screening as part of the Rear Window programme at Dunedin Public Art Gallery, NZ, February 9 to May 3, 2026.
