Artist in Residence at COIN South

For twelve weeks, Fletcher worked closely with the team at COIN South, the innovation network for Southland NZ, immersed in observation, listening, creating, and ongoing sharing within the office space. Her research led her to compare organisation structures with organic structures, and to the question of how COIN South's operations could be visually translated.

She found the answer in mycelium, a network of fungal threads that grows underground. Mycelium acts as an ecological connective tissue: it grows in order to connect, finds its way through labyrinths, and builds relationships between different organisms. The themes of connecting, developing, adapting, and problem-solving are central to both mycelium and COIN South.

The digital drawings are an outcome of the Artist in Residence programme at COIN South, 2023.
